- Gaia By Luke Jerram
Bath Abbey, Bath, Somerset BA1 1LT
Luke Jerram’s touring ‘Gaia’ artwork is on display at Bath Abbey as part of the Treasuring Creation Festival. This seven-meter-diameter sculpture features detailed NASA imagery of the Earth’s surface, offering visitors a unique three-dimensional view of our planet.
Suspended underneath the Abbey’s central tower, Gaia provides an awe-inspiring view as people enter the building. The artwork previously toured Wells Cathedral and has been praised for its ability to evoke the Overview Effect, a feeling of awe and responsibility for the planet that is commonly experienced by astronauts.
At 1.8 million times smaller than the real Earth, Gaia’s internally lit surface depicts the planet’s surface. A specially made surround sound composition by BAFTA award-winning composer Dan Jones accompanies the sculpture, enhancing the immersive experience.
Full details can be found by heating to the Bath Abbey Gaia webpage.
- ‘After Dark – Nights to Die For’ at Mary Shelley’s house of Frankenstein
37 Gay Street, Bath, Somerset, BA1 2NT
After two sold-out years, After Dark: Nights to Die For returns to Bath in 2023 with a new horrifying theme and even more extreme psychological terrors.
The theme for 2023 is Revenance, the name originating from folklore to mean an animated corpse that is believed to have been revived from death to haunt the living. Visitors will be immersed in an intense, psychological multi-sensory horror house exclusively from the Bath attraction dedicated to Mary Shelley and her legendary gothic tale, Frankenstein.
Set over five floors in a 300-year-old town house, the terrifying secret of 37 Gay Street is revealed, centring around a young girl believed to have been persecuted there some 200 years ago. Demonic beings, resurrected by satanic rituals, play out the terrifying childhood games of her cruel past.
Will you navigate your way out to freedom, or become their despairing playmate for eternity? Will you go out…After Dark?
